Let’s talk about graduation

Seniors, now is the time to be talking with counselors about where you stand for graduation.  Kearney High School requires 230 credits for graduation as well as 30 hours of English, 20 hours of math, 5 hours of oral communications, 10 hours of physical education, 5 hours of career & technical education, 20 hours of science, 25 hours of social studies and 5 hours of political science.  Senior students are divided by alphabet and assigned to specific counselors who monitor their credit throughout the senior year.  Mrs. VanVleet has A-F, Mr. Mroczek has G-L, Mrs. Holoubeck has M-R, and Mr. Ward has S-Z.  Seniors should make a point of visiting with their assigned counselor to ensure that they have everything on their schedule that they need in order to meet graduation requirements. 

It's College Fair Season

        During September and October, EducationQuest will sponsor several College Fairs featuring representatives from as many as 200 colleges.

Follow these tips to make the most of the College Fairs:

Before you attend, prepare a list of questions for school representatives. Ask about application deadlines and scholarships.       Determine what you want from a school. This helps you rule out some colleges and look more closely at others. Take notes to keep track of schools that interest you.                       

Prepare pre-printed labels with your name and address to stick on information cards at college booths where you want additional information. This saves the redundancy of filling out cards.                      

If you decide a college isn't right for you, contact that college and ask them to take you off their mailing list. This helps them, and saves you from receiving unnecessary mail.
